Basque municipalities launch guide on localising the Sustainable Development Goals

In a recently published guidance document, ICLEI Member Udalsarea21 – a network of more than 200 Basque municipalities committed to sustainability – provide local authorities with practical steps they can undertake to address Agenda 2030 and its associated Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from the local level.

The guidance documents begins by addressing the opportunities and benefits localising Agenda 2030 provides municipalities, which range from increased funding opportunities, to strengthening political involvement.

The document then goes on to outline five steps local authorities can undertake to localise Agenda 2030 and the SDGs – Step 1: how to approach the process to prepare the Local 2030 Agenda; Step 2: Establish the SDGs from the local reality; Step 3: Formulate the Local Agenda strategy; Step 4: Preparing the Local 2030 Agenda plan; Step 5: Measure the contribution of the municipality to the SDGs.
