Cities and municipalities invited to apply for the German Sustainability Award

German cities and municipalities are now invited to apply for the 12th German Sustainability Award.

The award, which was launched on 18 February, is the national award for excellence in sustainability, rewarding the sustainability efforts and achievements of German cities and municipalities across three categories: small-sized cities, medium-sized cities and large-sized cities.

A special prize will also be awarded to cities and municipalities who use digitization to reach their sustainability goals.

Alongside the title of Germany’s most sustainable city, the winner in each category will also receive €30,000 from the Allianz Environmental Foundation to help further their sustainability work.

The application deadline is 18 April 2019. Following this, the selected candidates will be visited and interviewed, in the second round, by the assessment partners: the German Institute for Urban Affairs (Difu), ICLEI and Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy.
