City examples on resource recovery showcased at Fat, Oil and Grease Summit

Each year, sewer blockages related to fat, oil and grease (FOG) cost global water authorities billions of Euros to clear, and pose a significant threat to the environment. On 14 October 2021, thought leaders from across Europe will gather to share ways to address this challenge at the European FOG Summit.

The summit, which is now in its third year, will bring together European water companies, the extended supply chain, local government, and environmental and circular economy groups and associations to examine the current challenge and what the future might hold for FOG.

A mix of keynote speeches and panel discussions make up the programme. Nikolai Jacobi, Senior Officer – Energy, Material & Built Infrastructure – Sustainable Resources, Climate & Resilience of ICLEI Europe will participate in a session titled “Resource recovery: from local to global”. During the session, Nikolai will share best practice examples of how cities from across Europe are recovering resources and driving local impact.

The FOG summit will take place in Brighton (United Kingdom) as a live event, and is being co-organised by SwiftComply, British Water, and Southern Water.
