Every year since 2003, the European Commission alongside the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) have hosted the European Week of Regions and Cities (EWRC), an event for cities and regions to showcase their work and the crucial role they play in European governance. The event hosts workshops, debates, and networking activities all as opportunities to exchange and learn from best practices across topics important to Europe, such as sustainable development, cross-border cooperation, and public-private partnerships.

Once again, ICLEI Europe will feature prominently in this year’s EWRC, taking place online from 5-22 October. Registration deadlines have been extended!

On 14 October from 16:30-18:00, ICLEI Europe will co-host “The power of sustainable procurement”. This workshop aims to inspire European, national, regional and local government officials and experts by presenting good practice case studies on sustainable procurement, which includes green and social criteria. Register by 7 October.

The following week, on 20 October from 14:30-16:00, ICLEI will contribute to a session titled “Biodiversity 2030: your say, our future”. Join the session – in English or Spanish – to hear from EU cities and regions regarding their successes halting biodiversity loss, and the long-term goals and biodiversity visions. Register by 14 October.

The next day, on 21 October from 11:30-13:00, in a special edition of the ICLEI Breakfast at Sustainability’s series, we will explore “Making Farm to Fork strategies work”. Join the workshop, which will build on the success of last year’s discussion. Register by 14 October.

Keen on exploring energy transition? Then join the “Social Innovation for Energy Transitions” session on 22 October from 9:30-11:00. The session brings together insights from cities participating in three EU-funded projects (SONNET, TOMORROW and UrbanA) to share their knowledge on the social aspects crucial to energy transition. Register by 14 October.

Finally, on 22 October from 11:30-13:00, the Green City Accord will launch! ICLEI Europe – alongside EUROCITIES and CEMR – are supporting the European Commission in developing and implementing the Accord. Join the launch event at EWRC to support the delivery of the European Green Deal’s environment ambition. Register by 14 October.
