Ghent wins Bold Measure Award at the 2018 CIVITAS Awards

The winners of the 2018 CIVITAS Awards were recently revealed during an award ceremony in Umeå (Sweden). This year’s “Bold Measure Award”, which is given to the city that adopts a daring and innovative approach that has not been widely implemented yet, was given to ICLEI Member Ghent (Belgium).

Ghent was honored for their Traffic Management as a Service (TMaaS) platform; a modular platform  that  collects  urban  mobility  data  from  stakeholders and  service  providers and  displays them  on  a  single dashboard .

Developed together with the government, industry and universities, the concept is ideal for future traffic centers in small - and medium - sized cities.

As a cloud-based platform, no major hardware investments are required. Besides visualisation, TMaaS can interpret the mobility data fed into it via u ser - defined criteria, whilst operators can also set their own alerts.

ICLEI Member Tirana (Albania) was also announced as a runner up for the ‘Transformations Award’, which is given to a city for achieving a significant transformation and progress towards a liveable and smarter city through an integrated set of mobility measures.

The CIVITAS awards highlight the most ambitious, innovative and successful efforts in the field of sustainable urban mobility.
