Green City Accord signatories: ‘Speeding up Europe’s green transition’

To ensure a clean and healthy future for Europe’s cities, leaders must urgently take decisive steps to safeguard urban environments and protect citizens’ well-being. This September, a unique event will celebrate the forward-thinking city leaders who have already committed to impactful action.

On 22 September, from 14:00-16:00 CEST, the Green City Accord will convene a ceremony under the headline: ‘The Green City Accord: Speeding up Europe’s green transition’ to celebrate urban leaders who have put substantial effort toward realising progress in five target areas: air, water, nature & biodiversity, waste management & circular economy, and noise.

The virtual ceremony – joined by Virginijus Sinkevičius, European Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries – will welcome mayors and city practitioners alike. The ceremony will also be live-streamed on YouTube.

This unique event will provide city leaders an exceptional opportunity to discuss the Green City Accord, related projects, achievements, challenges, and future goals.

Sixty cities across Europe have taken a step towards a common vision for a green and healthy future, by signing the Green City Accord, and many more are expected to sign the political commitment before the September ceremony.

Further details about the "signatories ceremony", the event agenda, and registration process will all be updated at: https://ec.europa.eu/environment/news/green-city-accord-ceremony-signatories-2021-07-22_en.

ICLEI Europe, EUROCITIES and CEMR are supporting the European Commission in developing and implementing the Accord.
