Green City Accord signatories invited to attend high-level ceremony

In late September, the Green City Accord will host a high-level ceremony, bringing together signatory cities, soon-to-be signatories, and supporter organisations to discuss what is in store for the Accord. Of the 60 signatories, 20 are ICLEI Members.

The Green City Accord is a movement of European cities committed to safeguarding the environment. In signing the Green City Accord, city leaders agree to take further action to protect the natural environment and to achieve ambitious goals by 2030 by making progress in five target areas: air, water, nature & biodiversity, waste & circular economy, and noise. ICLEI Europe, EUROCITIES and CEMR are supporting the European Commission in developing and implementing the Accord.

The ceremony, titled: ‘Speeding up Europe’s green transition’ will take place on 22 September from 14:00-16:00 CEST, and will celebrate signatories' commitment to a clean and healthy urban future as part of the Green City Accord.
The event will take place virtually and in-person, and will be attended by Virginijus Sinkevičius, the EU Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries. Participants will be given the unique opportunity to engage with one another and the European Commission, and to share their ambitions for future Green City Accord projects.

While event participation is limited to cities and organisations that are directly involved with the Green City Accord, the ceremony will be livestreamed on YouTube. All are welcome to watch.

Signatories, soon-to-be signatory cities and supporter organisations can register to attend the event online, and access the full programme agenda, here.
