How future-proof is your policymaking?

Integrating environmental considerations into policymaking is crucial to ensure the wellbeing of citizens and the sustainable future of cities. The Directorate-General Environment, European Commission has a comprehensive news and information service called ‘Science for Environment Policy‘ that provides policymakers tailored information on environmental science to inform decision making.

The free service is designed to help policymakers keep up-to-date with environmental research findings to support planning, implementing and regulating sustainable policies. The service provides in-depth analysis, timely alerts, future briefs and thematic reports.

The fortnightly news alert summarises key studies across a range of environmental topics and the thematic issues provide insightful summaries of key policy topics. For a future outlook the service has briefs that explore emerging environmental issues and in-depth reports on environmental science on a variety of policy topics.

Science for Environment Policy covers research in areas that are relevant to policymakers in cities such as air pollution, biodiversity, biotechnology, chemicals, climate change, environmental economics and behaviour, environment and health, green infrastructure, land use, natural capital, sustainable consumption and production, and much more.
