ICLEI Europe joins Wellbeing Economy Alliance

ICLEI Europe is now a member of the Wellbeing Economy Alliance (WEAll), one of the world’s leading networks working to transform economic systems to centre social justice and planetary health. As a WEAll member, ICLEI Europe joins over 200 organisations representing civil society, the private sector, academia, think tanks, faith groups, and governments driving initiatives to shift economic policies away from prioritizing Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth alone and towards holistic wellbeing.

WEAll’s mission aligns closely with ICLEI Europe’s committed advocacy efforts and initiatives working with cities and regions to catalyse systemic changes for a more just and sustainable future. The Mannheim Message identifies two core systemic changes towards which endorsers commit to act upon: (i) local development beyond growth and competition and (ii) re-orientation towards the common good.

Earlier in July 2022, ICLEI Europe published a study on the integration and implementation of the Common Good in Municipal Sustainability Management (German only) with fellow WEAll network partner International Federation for the Economy for the Common Good (ECG) and the Bertelsmann Foundation. Further collaboration with WEAll members like the ECG, the Doughnut Economy Action Lab, foundations, and local governments represents a promising avenue for ICLEI to strengthen partnerships and accelerate local action for sustainability.
