ICLEI Member Mannheim signs cooperation agreement with UN-Habitat

The city of Mannheim and UN-Habitat have recently entered into a cooperation agreement, making Mannheim the first German city of its kind to enter such a contractual agreement.

The agreement was signed during the ‘Global Strategic Dialogue’, an event attended by Mark Hidson, Deputy Regional Director, ICLEI Europe, which took place in Mannheim (Germany), 25-26 March.

Under the agreement, Mannheim will undertake and submit a review of how the city implements UN Agenda 2030 and localises the Sustainable Development Goals.

In return, UN-Habitat has pledged to present these findings at major UN events, such as the UN Habitat Assembly, or the World Urban Forum, which will be held in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) in 2020.

Speaking about the agreement Mayor of Mannheim, Dr. Peter Kurz said: "The fact that UN-Habitat justifies this formalised cooperation with Mannheim shows the appreciation that the international organisation has for the work done in Mannheim. This gives Mannheim far-reaching opportunities to profile itself as an innovative and international city. "
