ICLEI Members recognised as leading cities in climate action

The CDP has released its annual “Cities A List” of municipalities leading climate action. The list comprises cities from across the world. This year, 34 of the leading cities are from Europe, and 14 of those are ICLEI Europe Members.

CDP is an organisation that – in partnership with ICLEI – supports cities to report on their climate data, as a key way to manage and curb their environmental impact.

Each year, CDP analyses data reported through the CDP-ICLEI Unified Reporting System, and scores cities based on completeness and quality of their data, and on their level of climate action. This year, over 850 cities were scored, with 105 of them scoring an “A” grade (the highest grade possible) and therefore making the “Cities A List.”

Members from across Europe were recognised for their bold action to combat climate change. ICLEI Europe Members who made the A List include: Lahti and Turku (Finland); Berlin and Heidelberg (Germany); Reykjavík (Iceland); Oslo (Norway); Guimarães and Lisbon (Portugal); Barcelona and Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spain); Malmö, Örebro and Stockholm (Sweden); and Basel (Switzerland).

Analysis found that, on average, cities on the A List are taking over three times as many climate actions as other cities, including five times as many actions to cut emissions and curb future warming, and twice as many to adapt to climate hazards.
