ICLEI signs the Liège Declaration - The Roadmap for Adaptation to Climate Change

On 9 February, ICLEI, alongside over 70 organisations signed the Liège Declaration - The Roadmap for Adaptation to Climate Change. The Declaration represents a collective call to action and a commitment by the signing parties to address the challenges posed by climate change. It addresses the future of the European Green Deal post-2024 and actions relating specifically to climate change adaptation, nature-based solutions and resilience.

The Liège Declaration marked the end of the Climate Chance Europe 2024 Wallonia Summit, organised by the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU from 8-9 February in Liège (Belgium). The event was well represented by ICLEI Europe, who spoke and moderated sessions on community-based and community-led adaptation measures, integrating local adaptation plans into national policies and the role that adaptation plays in local climate plans.

The Declaration was signed by European non-state actors including cities and regions, NGOs, organisations, researchers, civil society and businesses. It is still open for subsequent signatures, so networks still interested in signing the Declaration can do so here.
