Katowice to promote electric vehicles

ICLEI member Katowice (Poland) is promoting the use of electric vehicles, to help minimise air pollution and reduce emissions. In the framework of EVUE project, the city will further develop the infrastructure for electric vehicles and integrate them into municipal fleet.

On 22 October 2010, the representatives of the City of Katowice met with ICLEI to discuss the opportunities for further cooperation. Taking stock of 17 years of ICLEI membership, Mr. Jan Blaz, Deputy Director of Environment Department and long-standing ICLEI liaison, reiterated Katowice’s commitment to local sustainability and urban regeneration.

Highlighting the challenges faced by a city in which over 90 percent of the territory has been affected by mining activities, Mr. Blaz underlined the importance of sustainable development in transforming Katowice into a thriving, vibrant metropolis, attractive for both inhabitants and businesses.
