Learn from Alba Iulia how to reduce plastic waste

Next week, ICLEI Member Alba Iulia (Romania) will welcome city authorities, waste managers, procurers, companies, and other interested stakeholders to a virtual study tour, where they will showcase how they have transformed plastic packaging waste into valuable products.

The study tour will include a deep-dive into Alba Iulia's solutions, ranging from smart containers to increase collection rates of plastic waste, to cost-effective waste transport systems connected to "IoT" (Internet of Things) cloud platforms. These and other solutions have been piloted and tested in Alba Iulia; local experts will take this opportunity not only to showcase successes, but also to reflect on lessons learnt.

These solutions were piloted and developed as part of the PlastiCircle project, which aims to reinvent the way we treat plastic packaging. Alba Iulia is one of three cities using PlastiCircle as a jumping off point to test, fine-tune and share solutions that reduce plastic waste.

The study tour, taking place on 15 October from 10:00-11:00 CEST, is part of Circular Week 2020, an international campaign devoted to the subject of circular economy, which aims to promote the circular economy, support sustainable business models, and establish cooperation between interested stakeholders.
