Local Renewables 2018 challenges cities and regions to think circular

Today, international policy makers from all levels of government, energy and resource experts, researchers and business will come together in Freiburg (Germany) and Basel (Switzerland) for the 9th Local Renewables Conference, 24-26 October.

Organised across borders by ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability, together with the City of Freiburg and the Swiss Canton, Basel Stadt, the conference puts particular emphasis on the importance of putting cities and regions at the centre in making energy more secure, affordable and sustainable.

In its ninth edition, Local Renewables discusses how to develop local and regional strategies to manage the transformation from a linear to a circular economy, the key role that renewable energy takes in this process, the opportunities and limitations of sector integration, as well as financing mechanisms, and the role of social innovation and citizen engagement.

Using a discussion-driven approach, the conference presents innovative solutions, and aims to challenge and inspire its participants to explore and apply these solutions to the hurdles cities and regions have to overcome today and in the future.
