Nijmegen to host conference on inland ports and sustainability

2018 European Green Capital City Nijmegen (The Netherlands) will host a conference titled ‘Ports and the City – Smart and Healthy’ on 12-13 April.

The two day, free of charge international conference, will inform and inspire participants on how to make inland port areas healthy, liveable, sustainable and smart. It will also serve to boost ambition to make inland waterway transport zero-emission and climate neutral by 2050.

The conference will bring together practitioners, policymakers, transporters, shippers, knowledge institutes and other stakeholders who bear responsibility for making the inland shipping sector sustainable.

A mix of plenary sessions, workshops, debates and presentations make up the conference programme. The conference will begin with an opening address from Hubert Bruls, Mayor of Nijmegen and will include presentations from, among others, Cora Van Nieuwenhuizen, Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, and the Dutch Federation of Inland Ports.
