THERMOS project to join Local Renewables

The THERMOS project is partnering with the 9th Local Renewables Conference (24-26 October 2018) and will hold the 2nd THERMOS Inspire event within the framework of the conference. THERMOS will conduct a break out session focusing on key challenges for local authorities when moving to a circular energy model and present some inspiring examples as well as replicable solutions already in place in the THERMOS partner cities Islington (United Kingdom) and Granollers (Spain).

The session will introduce the THERMOS project and its open-source thermal energy planning software, that is tailor made for supporting local authorities and other stakeholders to identify viable heat networks on address level and to efficiently plan for the upgrading, refurbishment and expansion of existing heating and cooling network systems.

The second part of the Inspire event will take participants to the Gutleutmatten area, one of Freiburg’s most important urban development projects. The tour will be accompanied by experts from Energy provider Badenova and Fraunhofer Institut for Solar Energy. Both, the session and the study visit are open to all participants of the Local Renewables 2018 Conference.

Hosted by the City of Freiburg (Germany) and the City of Basel (Switzerland), the Local Renewables Conference 2018 will focus on the importance of putting cities and regions at the centre in making energy more secure, affordable and sustainable, and on the growing need to transform from a linear to a circular economy to take full advantage of renewable resources. It will examine the collaboration with local stakeholders, the value of technological innovations and how to identify sources of financing local action
