Transformative Action Award showcases Europe’s most inspiring examples of urban sustainable transformation

The application deadline for the 2020 Transformative Action Award recently closed, with this year’s award receiving 27 applications from cities, regions and civil society organisations across Europe.

Applications to this year’s award span 15 countries and cover a wide range of sustainability topics, from water to nature-based solutions, biodiversity, social justice and sustainable mobility.

The award, co-organised by ICLEI, the Basque Country, and the City of Aalborg (Denmark), and supported by the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) and the European Investment Bank (EIB), rewards Transformative Actions that use the pathways outlined in the Basque Declaration to bring about the socio-cultural, socio-economic, and technological transformation of societies.

The shortlisted candidates will be revealed in September and the winner will be announced at an online award ceremony, which will take place during Mannheim2020 (the 9th European Conference on Sustainable Cities and Towns) from 30 September-2 October.

Mannheim2020 is Europe’s premier urban sustainability event, which will bring together local and regional leaders, European and international institutions, businesses, civil society, and some of the brightest minds working on cutting edge research to forge a more sustainable Europe.

Alongside being recognised as a leader of sustainable urban transformation in Europe, the winner of the 2020 award will receive €10,000 to help initiate further transformative actions in their city or region.
