Voting in the 2019 EU election begins!

Voting in the 2019 EU election has begun!

All month, ICLEI Europe has been showcasing messages from Mayors, Deputy Mayors and other representatives from local and regional governments across Europe encouraging citizens to vote in the elections, and to do so for a sustainable future. Participating leaders represent ICLEI Members and span 13 countries: Austria, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

The breadth of countries represented demonstrates the extent to which climate action has become a mainstream demand for Europeans.

This was further highlighted at ICLEI Europe’s EU Green Week stand, when visitors joined our campaign and took photographs of themselves in a frame proclaiming that they will vote, and holding messages in support of a sustainable future for Europe. These photographs, along with the messages from ICLEI Mayors, were featured on our Twitter feed, using the hashtags #Mayors4Europe and #ThisTimeImVoting.

Now it is time for Europeans to cast their ballots. Voters from different countries vote on different days. Here is when you can vote:

  • 23 May: The Netherlands and the United Kingdom
  • 24 May: The Czech Republic (continues 25 May) and Ireland
  • 25 May: The Czech Republic, Latvia, Malta and Slovakia
  • 26 May: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden
