Youth invited to submit video for virtual event leading up to Youth Forum

As witnessed in past years, young people have a huge potential to influence future climate policy that should be utlised more by local governments. The City of Milan, via Food Waves and ICLEI are proud to co-host their virtual event titled "Empowering youth for climate action", that will take place on Wednesday 29 September. The event aims to encourage young people to voice their opinions on policy concerning the following three topics: sustainable food systems, fair ecological transition and engagement in climate policy.

For the event an open call has been launched asking that interested participants make an original video in English (no more than 60 seconds in length in .mp4 or .mov format) that relates to one of the three above mentioned topics and answers the following question:

To meet the objectives set by the Paris agreement:

  • What would your climate action be?
  • What would you need from policy makers in order to make that happen?

Submissions are welcome until 8 September. Following the open call, six winners, two from each of the three topics, will be chosen to participate in a live discussion on their proposed policy solutions. As an organising partner for the forum, ICLEI welcomes the opportunity to create space for young activists to express their demands to decision-makers, and create strategies for tackling climate change at the local level for years to come.
