TiCCA4Danu drives systemic, transformative change for climate change adaptation (CCA) in the Danube Macro-Region. Our innovative approach applies Transformative Innovation Policy (TIP) to the city-region level, linking it with Local Green Deals and enabling new business models, investment tools, and inclusive processes. With strong participation from public authorities, vulnerable groups, and the private sector, the project aims to overcome structural barriers and promote climate-just resilience.
Working with city-regions, we are developing practical tools, training, and governance models that accelerate real change. Rooted in transdisciplinary collaboration, and aligned with EU missions, the project scales through partnerships with the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) and involves neighbouring countries like Ukraine and Türkiye.
TICCA4DANU brings together four anchor cities in the Danube Macro-Region: Burgas in Bulgaria, Debrecen in Hungary, Maribor in Slovenia, and Suceava in Romania. Each city works closely with its surrounding region – District Burgas (BG), Hajdú-Bihar County (HU), Podravje (SI) and Nord-Est (RO).
By working with the peri-urban and rural areas, the project acknowledges the complex socio-economic, cultural, and environmental connections between urban centers and their hinterlands. Together, these “city-regions” will develop, co-design and test new models of climate governance and policy experimentation that are grounded in respective local challenges.
By 2028, our toolkit will empower cities and regions to implement just and effective CCA strategies, co-designed with local stakeholders.
