Development of an Evidence base to Evaluate the Downstream Impacts of Sustainable Procurement for the UK Government

The overarching objective of this project is to develop a robust evidence base on the outcomes that can be achieved from sustainable procurement in the public sector. This will focus on the impacts sustainable public procurement policies and contracts have on market supply and wider market demand.
The overarching objective of this project is to develop a robust evidence base on the outcomes that can be achieved from sustainable procurement in the public sector. This will focus on the impacts sustainable public procurement policies and contracts have on market supply and wider market demand.
A principle requirement is to collect and analyse market supply information on how key public sector suppliers have responded to sustainable procurement policies and contracts in the UK, wider EU and in other countries worldwide.
Similarly important is to understand is how public sector suppliers have influenced other organisations and individuals to procure more sustainably and change behaviour.
The results of this research are expected to be used by the UK government's Sustainable Procurement Task Force, which was established in May 2005 and charged with drawing up an action plan by April 2006 to bring about a step by step change in sustainable public procurement so that the UK is amongst the leaders in the EU by 2009.
