Local governments play an important role within the framework of the Agenda 2030. Therefore the German government constituted the cross-ministerial working party “Nachhaltige Stadtentwicklung in nationaler und internationaler Perspektive (Sustainable urban development from a national and international perspective)”, abbr. IMA-Stadt. The focus of its working group 1 is to clarify issues related to the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals at the local level.The German Institute of Urbanism (Deutsches Institut für Urbanistik/DIFU), IFOK and ICLEI Europe support the work of the IMA Stadt, especially AG I, in the form of discussion papers, feasability studies or process support.
Main focus of ICLEI within this project is:

• evaluation and analysis of the agenda 2030 and its following activities related to the local level in Germany
• development of sketched ideas of possible basic types of a sustainability governance/ management platform
