SYMBA

Securing local supplY chains via the development of new Methods to assess the circularity and symbiosis of the Bio-bAsed industrial ecosystem enhancing the EU competitiveness and resource independence

2024 - 2026

The SYMBA project aims to develop an innovative Industrial-Symbiosis (IS) method for bio-based industrial ecosystems, which will be replicated across European countries and adapted to the respective local and regional conditions. SYMBA will establish a user-friendly and accessible AI database that recommends new regional IS processes to establish zero-waste value chains, ensuring greater local supply chains and a more equitable distribution of economic and social benefits among stakeholders.

By engaging various industrial sectors including agri-food, packaging, wastewater, textile, and waste valorisation, SYMBA will demonstrate the transition from a linear to a circular economy and significantly contribute to delivering bio-based solutions with reduced environmental impacts on soil, water, and air quality.
