C-Track 50

Putting regions on track for carbon neutrality by 2050

2018 - 2020

C-Track 50 was a project funded by the EU Horizon 2020 programme, bringing together 13 project partners from 11 European countries (universities, consultancies, regional energy agencies, NGOs, and regional governments). It aimed to mobilize and guide public authorities at local, regional, and national levels in defining long-term energy policy priorities, promoting multi-level governance, and supporting local and regional authorities in developing, financing, and implementing sustainable Energy and Climate Policy Plans. Its goal was to achieve climate resilience and carbon neutrality by 2050 and support the efforts of the Paris Agreement to limit the temperature increase to 1.5°C.

The project was expected to contribute significantly to achieving the 2030 and 2050 EU energy and climate targets. Its results were widely disseminated to as many regional and local stakeholders, national and European decision-makers as possible. A strategy was formulated to sustain the exploitation of the outcomes beyond the project’s lifetime. At the same time, the project ensured that it complemented the efforts of other projects and activities undertaken at regional and local levels.

C-Track 50 was coordinated by the National Technical University of Athens. ICLEI led the implementation of activities in Germany with local governments and one region, drafted and regularly updated the planned communication activities, contributed to the dissemination and exploitation of the project’s results, and organized workshops and an informational event for local and regional authorities at a national level.
