Vitoria-Gasteiz continues to drive initiatives for a greener city

ICLEI Member Vitoria-Gasteiz (Basque country) made advances this week in greening their municipal transport fleet, with the purchase of five new hybrid buses.

This move is part of the municipality’s aim to renew their fleet. In order to meet this goal, the municipal transport company, TUVISA, is purchasing new large buses, hybrid buses, and electric buses. This will result in the renewal of over one third of Vitoria-Gasteiz’s fleet.

The renewal of transport vehicles is an important contribution toward greening and modernising the municipality’s infrastructure so that it best serves people. Vitoria-Gasteiz’ citizens use municipal buses to make over 15 million trips per year. These trips will now generate a lower environmental footprint.

In addition, the new buses are more accessible for those with reduced mobility, wheelchairs, or babies, and have technological improvements like USB chargers to improve usability and satisfaction among users.
