ICLEI Europe's network is growing

Welcome with us the new cities and organisations that have joined our network: Consell Comarcal del Vallès Occidental (Spain) and Dortmund (Germany), Katerini (Greece) and Denizli (Türkiye). By becoming part of ICLEI, they commit to leading the way in sustainable development at the local level, driving the transformational change needed to achieve climate neutrality. Together, we will collaborate on innovative solutions that create resilient, sustainable communities.

Consell Comarcal del Vallès Occidental (Spain)
The Consell Comarcal del Vallès Occidental, located in Catalonia, is leading territorial action in the region. They are committed to addressing environmental challenges in the whole of the Vallès Occidental territory (23 municipalities, and around 930,000 inhabitants) and have already implemented various initiatives, such as promoting energy efficiency, sustainable mobility and the conservation of local ecosystems.

Dortmund (Germany)
Dortmund, a city in Germany with a strong industrial history, is one of the greenest large cities in Germany. The city of around 612,000 inhabitants started drawing up an action programme on sustainability with various organisations. To give visibility to the projects, they created a “Climate barometer”, a dashboard for ongoing climate protection activities.

Katerini (Greece)
Located in the northern part of Greece, Katerini is the capital of the Pieria regional unit and home to around 80,000 residents. Nestled between Mount Olympus and the Thermaic Gulf, Katerini is especially working towards sustainable urban development, with projects focused on enhancing green spaces, promoting eco-friendly transportation and encouraging community engagement in environmental initiatives.

Denizli (Türkiye)
Located in southwestern Türkiye, Denizli has a population of around 650,000. Known for its textile industry and proximity to the famous Pamukkale thermal springs, a UNESCO World Heritage site, Denizli combines modern urban life with rich natural and cultural heritage. The city has started to undertake several initiatives to enhance environmental sustainability, as part of its Climate Change Action Plan 2016-2030.

We are pleased to have you as part of this network!
