Learn to improve human and environmental health with nature-based solutions

Nature-based solutions (NBS) can drive positive change in your municipality, improving human and environmental health. Learn more about integrating NBS into urban planning this autumn by signing up for a Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) titled Nature-based Urban Regeneration.

In this course, city representatives and NBS specialists working at the forefront of sustainable urban planning and community health will equip participants with the knowledge they need to intentionally integrate NBS into city plans. Course participants will be introduced to the basics of NBS, followed by a deep dive into how NBS can contribute to a circular economy, urban food production, climate change adaptation, improved health outcomes, and disaster risk resilience.

Participants will also learn about impacts of NBS on the environment, health, human wellbeing and social dynamics, and how to apply scientific methods to monitor and assess these effects. They will explore business models for NBS implementation and management. Different types of NBS will be introduced, as well as considerations for place-specific implementation, and strategies for stakeholder engagement and the foregrounding of marginalised and vulnerable groups.

To maintain an emotionally, economically, and socially thriving population, cities need to better incorporate nature into the urban fabric. Learn more by joining this course, which draws on research results from Living Labs in European cities from the proGIreg and GoGreenRoutes projects, as well as ICLEI Europe’s vast experience working with cities. The course runs from 3 October to 5 December 2022.
