Submission deadline for EU Cities for Fair and Ethical Trade Award extended

The EU Cities For Fair and Ethical Trade award, which recognises and rewards European local authorities that promote fair, ethical and sustainable trade practices, has just extended its deadline for submissions to 20 April.

The award is part of the EU’s efforts to raise awareness about how purchasing decisions of EU consumers can affect the environment and livelihoods of people in other countries, and the role that cities and local authorities have to play.

Local authorities with more than 20,000 inhabitants are invited to submit an application. The winning city will have the opportunity to run, with the support of the International Trade Centre (ITC), a sustainable trade project in the Global South. The project, managed by ITC, would have a value of 100.000 Euros.

The winner of the 2018 award will be announced on 27 June at an award ceremony scheduled to take place in Brussels (Belgium).

The award ceremony will take place as part of a conference titled ‘From local to global: Scaling up Fair Trade in Europe’, which will also include a workshop where finalists can present their accomplishments, exchange ideas, and network.
