Bringing Nature-based Solutions into schools

As part of the EU’s Green Deal, the transition to a climate-neutral future has significant social, economic, and employment impacts, with education and training playing a crucial role. Integrating Nature-based Solutions (NbS) into educational frameworks is essential for addressing climate and biodiversity crises. ICLEI Members and local governments in general are key to this transformation. By promoting NbS in education, they can create healthier cities and inform citizens, enhancing support for sustainability transitions. Supporting the NbS education sector, providing teacher training, organising dissemination activities, and integrating NbS into curricula are vital steps in tackling climate and biodiversity crises effectively.

NBS EduWORLD Academy: Summer School for teaching NbS

In this context, the NBS EduWORLD project’s Academy on teaching for NbS offers a comprehensive series of training activities, including an engaging Summer School. This programme aims to support, develop, and promote the teaching and testing of NBS. From 30 June to 5 July in Marathon (Greece), participants will delve into various topics, including successful examples and implementations of NbS, learning effective methods to teach about NbS and integrate these topics into various curricula and engaging in hands-on projects and peer learning activities to foster a deep understanding of NbS.

Participating in this Summer School will enhance educators' efficiency in teaching about NbS, preparing them to inspire the next generation towards sustainability. For more details on the programme, fees, and registration, click here.

UrbanByNature and NBS EduWORLD: A series of webinars

Can’t travel to Greece? The UrbanByNature Capacity Building Programme collaborates with NBS EduWORLD to present a series of six informative webinars. Open to all, these webinars aim to increase NbS knowledge, raise environmental awareness, and support city planners and policymakers towards sustainable planning actions.

The inaugural webinar on 4 July 2024, from 3-4 pm CEST will feature presentations from ICLEI Europe experts and NBS EduWORLD city, Genova (Italy), offering insights into the challenges and potential of NbS. It will be followed by an interactive discussion.

"Raising awareness about the challenges and providing general concepts about Nature-based Solutions (NBS) to mitigate current and future problems is key to us within the NBS EduWORLD project. We are bringing everyone together to start joining forces for a transition in current NBS education systems that allow applying theory to practise." says Carme Machí Castañer, Expert in Biodiversity and NbS at ICLEI Europe.
