Vast amounts of wastewater with high nutrient contents disappear daily into the sewers of large cities. On the other hand, agriculture struggles to produce yields to feed a growing world population using conventional fertilizers. In other words: with respect to nutrients, what some have too much of, others lack. The 32 P2GreeN partners – including ICLEI Europe – are working to find a solution!

P2GreeN’s overall objective is to foster a paradigm shift, from a linear resource and nutrient system within the agri-food supply chain, to a circular material flow system between urban and rural areas. This would restore the coupling of the water-agri-food system using a holistic resource management approach that follows the 3R principle: reduce, reuse, recover.
