Resilient communities – shaping and achieving the Global Goal on Adaptation through subnational action

12 November 2022, 10:00 - 11:05
- Online

Recent findings show that climate change risks to cities, settlements and key infrastructure will rapidly rise in the mid- and long-term with further global warming. With worsening conditions, climate change impacts and risks are becoming increasingly complex and more difficult to manage.

This UNFCCC side event organised by the European Committee of the Regions(COR) will hence look into how resilient communities can be the building block for developing resilience from the local to a global scale.

ICLEI Deputy Director for Sustainable Resources, Climate and Resilience, Holger Robrecht, will join the session as expert for building resilience at the local level and facilitating impact of local experiences for adaptation and resilience on a national and international scale.

Speakers of this event include:

  • Holger Robrecht, ICLEI Europe Deputy Regional Director Sustainable Resources, Climate and Resilience
  • Fatimetou Abdel Malick, President, UCLG Africa
  • Elina BARDRAM, DIRECTOR, European Commission - DG Climate Action
  • Markku Markkula, President of the Helsinki Region, CoR Vice-President, Helsinki Region
  • Ine Vandecasteele, Expert - Urban adaptation, European Environment Agency
