Local governments are exploring innovative methods to inform, consult, and actively involve citizens in decision-making, championing democracy at the local level. Yet, these efforts are often harmed by disinformation and require ongoing iteration, posing challenges for sometimes stretched municipal teams.
In this session with ICLEI Members Cascais and Mannheim, we will examine the impact of fake news at the local level as well as practical tools developed by municipalities to ensure transparency in their work and engage citizens in ways that are both meaningful and sustainable, moving beyond one-off experiments toward long-term impact.
