Bonn backs up climate emergency with catalogue of 150 climate measures

On 4 July 2019, the City of Bonn (Germany) joined other towns, cities, and even countries across the world in calling a climate emergency, through which affirming that climate protection must have top priority in all municipal action.

Since then, the City has been working hard to turn their declaration into action, and recently launched a catalogue of 150 concrete suggestions to do this. The catalogue covers six fields of action: solar energy, climate-friendly building and living, sustainable city, urban development, campaigns and communication, and climate adaptation.

Speaking about the catalogue, Mayor of Bonn and ICLEI President, Ashok Sridharan said: "The declaration of the climate emergency must now be quickly followed by action! We have therefore deliberately chosen an approach that enables us to take direct action: Many of the measures developed can be implemented directly by the city administration and thus make an additional contribution to climate protection and adaptation. But we must all be aware of the fact that this catalogue of measures does not yet provide an answer to how the City of Bonn can become climate-neutral by 2035! There is still a lot of work ahead of us."
