ICLEI Europe joins EU Green Week

Each year, the European Commission hosts #EUGreenWeek – an event that convenes a range of stakeholders and experts to engage around Europe’s sustainable future. This year’s event will centre on implementation of environmental laws, based on the Commission’s reports on the topic titled the Environmental Implementation Review. The event will open in ICLEI Member City Warsaw (Poland) on 13 May, and will continue in ICLEI Member City Brussels (Belgium) at the BluePoint Brussels Conference Centre from 15-17 May.

ICLEI Europe is an EU Green Week associate, and will feature prominently throughout the week.

You can find us at Stand number 13 at in the Conference Centre’s Exhibition Hall mobilising citizens to vote in the upcoming EU elections – taking place from 23-26 May – and to do so for parties concerned with the sustainable future of Europe.

If you are unable to make it to our Brussels stand, you can nonetheless join in and follow the campaign on our Twitter feed using the hashtags #ThisTimeImVoting and #Mayors4Europe.

Staff at the stand will also be available to answer questions on the Transformative Action Award, and help you compete for the €10,000 prize.

Plus, a number of ICLEI projects relevant to the conference sessions will be featured. As the sessions unfold in the conference halls, ICLEI will be on hand at the Exhibition to provide concrete examples of projects tackling relevant topics in Europe spanning from waste management and circular economy; to energy projects; to cities and urban agendas; to urban mobility and more.

ICLEI is also organising and hosting #EUGreenWeek side events. First, the final event of the CIVITAS BuyZET project will be held in Brussels on 14 May. This event will discuss the project outcomes, which relate to new smart procurement approaches to influence the transportation footprint of purchased services, goods, and vehicles.

On 16 May, PlastiCircle and ICLEI Europe will host a conference on the circularity of plastics in Europe’s urban environments, and the future of plastics in Europe.

On 21 May, the INCOVER project will host a stakeholder dialogue event on the upcoming EU regulation on water reuse and bridging the gap between policy, perception, and practices.

Finally, ICLEI’s BIOVOICES project will host a German-language side event on 29 May in ICLEI Member Bonn (Germany) in partnership with Biobridges and BLOOM. The event will discuss perspectives on and challenges related to the bioeconomy and uptake of bio-based products.
