ICLEI’s CityLoops website wins prestigious .eu Web Award 2022

The CityLoops website, developed and managed by ICLEI Europe in Freiburg (Germany), was awarded the .eu Web Award 2022 at a ceremony in Brussels (Belgium) on 17 November! The project was nominated under the “Better World” category, which focuses on websites that represent green initiatives and environmentally-friendly organisations. The award ceremony was organised by EURid, the registration system for the .eu domain name on behalf of the European Commission, and highlights websites using the .eu, .ею, or .ευ extensions that are most effective and impactful.

The CityLoops project brings together seven European cities – Apeldoorn, Bodø, Mikkeli, Porto, Seville, Høje-Taastrup and Roskilde – to test out actions that “close the loop” in two sectors that are among the most important waste streams in Europe: construction, and demolition & biowaste. As winner in the “Better World” category, the project will receive an educational package for website management and a marketing campaign with a budget of €5000.

Speaking about the award, ICLEI Europe Deputy Regional Director for Communications Ruud Schuthof notes, “We are excited and thankful to win the prestigious .eu Web Award 2022 for our website cityloops.eu in a fierce competition with 820 submissions. Also our website civitas.eu made it amongst the three finalists. This is such a great recognition of the hard work of the team here at ICLEI Europe.

The CIVITAS Initiative website was nominated under “The Laurels” category, for websites that represent educational institutions, charitable organisations, or pan European projects. Congratulations to all winners and nominees!
