Local energy planners invited to access free, expert heating and cooling planning advice

Did you know that heating and cooling accounts for about half of Europe’s total energy needs, with 75% still dependent on fossil fuels? To dramatically decrease this dependency and increase the share of renewable energy in European homes, action must be taken at the local level, involving a variety of stakeholders.

However, as strategic heating and cooling (H&C) planning requires know-how, resources and experience, not all municipalities are equally prepared for this transition.

ICLEI Europe encourages local energy planners to apply for free individual advice for municipalities to start, complete, or improve upon their district H&C planning.

Specifically, applicants will gain exclusive access and insight to the well-established H&C planning software Hotmaps and THERMOS, open source tools which facilitate planning for heating and cooling.

All local energy planners interested in strategic H&C planning are welcome to apply. The Call for Applicants will remain open until 15 June 2022 via EUSurvey.

Interested in applying, but don't have time to complete the full application? We have a solution for you! Simply fill in the Expression of Interest form with basic details. If an initial match is identified, the Support Facility will get back to you on the next application steps.

Individual support is possible through the ICLEI supported Act!onHeat Support Facility and through funding from the EU’s Horizon 2020 Programme, which makes tools such as Hotmaps and THERMOS possible.

More information on the Support Facility and how to apply can be found on the Call for applicants page.
