Secure funding for your next data-driven project with the Action Fund

Civil society organisations, academic institutions and non-profit research institutes looking to secure funding to implement their next data-driven project, can now apply for funding through the Action Fund.

The Action Fund, which was launched today, is offering up to 350,000 EUR in funding to projects that aim to increase energy efficiency, reduce CO2 emissions, and drive environmental and climate action. The initiative is led by ICLEI, with support from Google.org

The call welcomes projects under the topic of environmental action and climate mitigation, with an emphasis on the following fields: sustainable mobility, sustainable and energy-efficient buildings, solar energy development, and air quality.

Speaking about the Action Fund, ICLEI Europe Regional Director, Wolfgang Teubner said: "data can, if presented in a way that is engaging and easy to understand, inform and motivate people to take action for change. That is why Google.org and ICLEI are collaborating to work with civil society actors to harness this potential and transform cities into more climate-resilient and sustainable places."

Civil society organisations, academic institutions, and non-profit research institutes operating in the following ICLEI Member cities are invited to apply for funding: Aalborg, Copenhagen (Denmark), Berlin, Hamburg, Heidelberg, Mannheim, (Germany), Lille, Nantes, Strasbourg, (France), Birmingham, Glasgow (United Kingdom). Applications from relevant organisations in Greater Manchester (United Kingdom) are also welcomed.

To be eligible, projects must use data from publicly available sources, such as Google’s Environmental Insights Explorer (EIE), and applications need to be consistent with the respective city’s sustainability plans and strategies.
